The Project Board and Collaborative Steering Committee have appointed a series of workgroups to progress the development of the following activities:

  • developing spatial coordination best practice guidelines for industry that covers all aspects of the mechanical services from design, installation and operation through their entire lifecycle;
  • developing BIM execution plans for clearer guidance into responsibility and contractual provisions;
  • developing a robust project methodology and appointing working groups of the BIM Steering Committee to develop key components;
  • appointing accredited model builders for industry suppliers that establishes minimum standards and requirements for equipment models to enable supply chain workflows;
  • finalising the BIM-MEPAUS standards, model standards and workflows customised to Australian standards, industry practice and regulatory arrangements;
  • releasing the BIM-MEPAUS workflow solutions for industry adoption to design, tender, construct, fabricate and deliver As-built documentation for facility management and asset management;
  • raising awareness and communicating status of the initiative at AMCA BIM Industry Forum; and
  • developing BIM 101 training courses for all participants in the construction industry.

Accessories

The accessories workgroup will follow the development of equipment models following the same methodology for equipment such as grilles and dampers.

Best Practice Guidelines

The Best Practice guidelines workgroup is responsible for developing spatial coordination best practice guidelines for industry that covers all aspects of the mechanical services from design, installation and operation through their entire lifecycle.

BIM-MEPAUS Standards

The BIM-MEPAUS Standards workgroup interfaces with workgroups developing model standards, libraries and workflows customised to Australian industry practice and regulatory arrangements.

Training and Education

The Training and Education workgroup develops plans 18 months out. Training is a significant opportunity for the adoption of BIM. Recognising the future demand the Training and Education workgroup will develop a BIM 101 Introductory level program.

Plant/ Equipment/ Fitting Models

BIM-MEPAUS creates detailed plant/equipment/fittings specifications for development of constructible Revit MEP content that supports whole of life modelling requirements through the addition of country specific shared parameters schedules.

Input into the specification development provided through industry workgroups that involve designers, installers and suppliers assures the specifications and shared parameters support the model and supply chain workflows.

Completed specifications are published via the website.
