Melbourne, Australia | 15 October 2026
BIM-MEPAUS is pleased to announce that, from today, ownership and operation has transferred from AMCA Australia to Virtual Buildings Information Systems Pty Ltd (VBIS).
This milestone marks an important new chapter in the evolution of BIM-MEPAUS and reinforces its long-term future as Australia’s leading digital engineering and Building Information Modelling (BIM) initiative for the building services industry.
Since its establishment in 2010, BIM-MEPAUS has brought together contractors, consultants, manufacturers, educators and industry practitioners to create a shared digital standard for mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) services.
Through industry collaboration and innovation, BIM-MEPAUS has developed trusted digital content, tools, standards and workflows that have been adopted across hundreds of projects throughout Australia.
As a specialist provider of digital asset information standards and data management solutions, VBIS will provide the dedicated focus and expertise needed to further develop BIM-MEPAUS and support its growing role within the built environment.
“BIM-MEPAUS began with a simple belief: our industry should shape its own digital future. Sixteen years later, that vision has been realised through the commitment of contractors, consultants, manufacturers, trainers and volunteers who built it for the benefit of the entire industry,” said Benjamin Hawkins, AMCA Australia Chief Executive Officer.
“Moving BIM-MEPAUS to VBIS is a natural next step, ensuring it has the focus and support needed to continue growing and delivering value to industry.”
Nathan Semos, VBIS Executive Manager said, “Today is an opportunity to recognise the remarkable legacy of BIM-MEPAUS and the significant contribution made by those who have invested their time, expertise and passion into its development over many years.”
“Together, BIM-MEPAUS and VBIS create a clear and complementary digital strategy, with BIM-MEPAUS focused on project delivery and VBIS focused on data management.”
