Dr Collette Burke has more than 25 years’ experience in the engineering and construction industry. Dr Burke’s experience covers a wide-range of sectors and industries, such as: telecommunications, road, tunnel, rail, building, manufacturing and marine.

Dr Burke is in key management positions within major engineering consultancy and education firms, Exner Group and Karsta, as well as a Director on the VicTrack board.

With a PhD in risk management, Dr Burke is an internationally-acknowledged researcher and has worked as a senior lecturer and course advisor at University of Melbourne and RMIT University.

Dr Burke believes in early exposure to engineering and science, technology, engineering and maths is critical for young people. This is particularly true for improving the representation of women in the engineering workforce

Dave Pikey is the Vice President of Corporate Technology for The Hill Group, a $300M Chicago-based organization engaged in construction and maintenance of mechanical building systems – all with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability. Dave joined Hill in 1998 as a design engineer and has been developing process and technology around modeling, estimating, prefabrication, modular construction and business intelligence since 2004. Dave also runs marketing and communication for The Hill Group. He is often an industry guest speaker sharing his experience on leveraging technology in a collaborative environment to deliver a better product in the construction process. Dave has a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Purdue University.

Previously a Vice President at a leading mechanical, fire protection and HVAC services company, Amanda Comunale brings a unique insight into the contractor-supplier relationship. Now Director of Virtual Design and Construction with Victaulic, Amanda leads the teams responsible for software content development, training, prefabrication analysis and drawing services. This includes the development of new offerings that allows their customers to achieve efficiencies in their modelling offices, greater accuracy throughout their estimating and procurement activities, and improved timeliness of fabrication. Amanda also holds a range of industry and community leadership positions.  She is a member of the National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA) and the American Supply Association’s Women in Industry Division. She also serves as Vice Chair of the Stephen A. Comunale, Jr. Family Cancer Foundation, and is a board member of the Women’s Endowment Fund of Akron Community Foundation. She holds a BA from Union College, an MBA from Case Western Reserve University, and a certificate in Lean Six Sigma from Villanova University. She is also a graduate of Leadership Akron.

Steve specialises in digital design and construction. He has 15 years architectural experience with the last 10 years holding digital technology leadership positions for multi-disciplinary design studios in Sydney and London. More recently he has become the General Manager of BIM Consulting, and an advisor for digital technology to their parent company Architectus.  He’s in touch with design, construction and facilities management professionals and he doesn’t want to make their life difficult by implementing complexity and ambiguity on projects. His goal is for improvement across the project lifecycle, aiming for better design process, better delivery, and better digital asset handover.  Steve has seen that first-class virtual models, paired with optimised digital processes, will give projects a great chance for success.

Adrian is the BIM Coordinator for the  Building Services division. Adrian has been a Mechanical  Design Draftsperson with 11 years’ experience in  the building services industry. He has  multiple Qualifications and has extensive mechanical detailing and documentation experience using various drawing packages.

Adrian is responsible for the ongoing innovation and development of the BIM and Revit environment, as well as overseeing and maintaining Revit software and Building Services Drafting Teams for both Melbourne and Darwin offices.

Experienced in 3D modelling and coordination, Adrian has worked on an array of projects including pharmaceutical, education,  commercial and government projects. Adrian combines his design knowledge of mechanical services, technical skills and experience working on large projects along with resource management skills to provide a solid foundation for the continued development of quality documentation.

Prior to joining Autodesk, Rafik held sales, technical and professional services roles with other engineering software vendors.

Warwick Stannus is Group Engineering Manager of the A.G. Coombs Group of Companies, where he is responsible for the technical leadership and professional development for all engineering and technical staff. With a background in both the consulting and contracting sides of the construction industry, Warwick has a strong understanding of the requirements to successfully implement integrated project delivery strategies. In recent years, he has been heavily involved in the delivery of Independent Commissioning Agent services for a number of Australia’s leading Green Star projects, and has developed valuable experience in best practice sustainable design and project delivery. He also provides a range of engineering and commissioning advisory services related to central plant upgrades, data centre engineering, commissioning management and building information modelling. Warwick is Technical Director of the BIM-MEPAUS initiative, and has been pivotal in the development of industry standards, practices and workflows.

Steve Butler is Industry Strategy Manager for MEP & Fabrication at Autodesk. Steve initially joined Autodesk as a third party developer focusing on MEP software solutions. In the 10 years since, he has provided MEP product implementation support as a Customer Success Engineer; country specific solutions as Globalisation Product Line Manager; and as MEP Product Line Manager, has been responsible for technical delivery of Revit MEP and Autodesk Fabrication products. Prior to joining Autodesk, Steve worked for design consultants, contractors and manufacturers.

Ian McGaw has a dual degree in computer science and international business, focusing on the management and research and development of emerging technologies in the AEC/O sector. He is an executive business leader with broad domestic and international experience in identifying strategic and innovative technology solutions to complex business challenges. Ian’s interests, along with years of industry-related experience, have allowed him to understand how complex technology process has become an influential factor in the way buildings are delivered all over the world. Ian has experience in the full value chain of project development process, starting from early strategic planning, project planning, business IT innovation strategy and business portfolio management for long term clients all the way to project turn-over. With experiences as practitioner, product manager and project manager, Ian has been developing products and services specific to the building lifecycle with a focus on improving the overall workflow delivery, Virtual / Augmented Reality, and IWMS (Integrated Workplace Management Solution) integration. With over 15 years of construction experience, Chris supports C.R. Kennedy Building Construction clients throughout Australia with product selection, implementation and training to enable mechanical, electrical and plumbing contractors to take 3D positional data to the field digitally, increasing productivity and accuracy by improving layout processes. Chris has been involved with the Australian construction industry for over five years following his work with USA building company McCarthy based in San Francisco. Chris was instrumental in the use of robotic total stations for digital lay-out and the use of the laser scanning technology for verification. Previously Chris worked with Wood Rogers Inc and was responsible for construction set-out on the Mercy Medical Centre as well as a 31,000m2, $80-million printing facility.

Derek Olsen is the Director of Industry Application and Training at Vrtual HVAC. Vrtual HVAC is a specialist division within Vrtual Pty Ltd, a leader in virtual reality systems in Australia. Derek has 23 years’ experience in the HVAC industry and has held a number of senior positions in a variety of disciplines. Derek is a member of various industry bodies including AIRAH and CIBSE and sits on the NEBB Australia and NEBB USA boards. His other passion is software development. He has created award winning HVAC testing and commissioning applications which he sells to the industry. Originally from Ramsbottom in the North West of England, Dave worked in both the CAM and CAD departments for a large HVAC construction company, instrumental in the development of MAP’s CADDuct software. He spent a period working at MAP as their CAD support manager before moving to a HVAC contractor as a project engineer. He then spent five years cutting his teeth at a global multi disciplinary design practice in central Manchester. Following a move to Melbourne seven years ago Dave has spent the last three years configuring and deploying Autodesk’s Fabrication ESTmep for one of Australia’s largest HVAC Contractors. Now with A2K Technologies, he brings 30 years’ experience from the M.E.P. construction / design industry to the BIM-MEPAUS Initiative.

Martin Schmid joined Autodesk in 2005 as a project consultant for MEP customers, both for Revit MEP and AutoCAD MEP. Martin holds a BS in Architectural Engineering, and MS in Engineering from Kansas State University, and a Masters in Management of Technology from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He worked as an electrical designer, engineering coordinator and application developer before joining Autodesk. Martin has co-authored books for Revit and AutoCAD MEP and is a licensed engineer in the state of New Hampshire. Martin worked in the product globalization and customer success teams prior to joining the product management team, where he now guides direction related to the extended MEP product portfolio, including MEP functionality within Revit, CADmep, ESTmep, CAMduct, and AutoCAD Plant 3D.

Brendan is the Senior Technical Consultant for MEP at A2K Technologies with a key focus on Revit MEP and Fabrication tool-sets. Brendan has almost 20 years’ experience within the AEC industry, implementing BIM standards, procedures and training and promoting the appropriate use of BIM software for users across different disciplines and multiple projects. Brendan has expert experience in multi-disciplined BIM collaboration and has been a key technical advisor for the BIM-MEPAUS industry initiative for the past five years. His current role involves the delivery of custom training, consulting and support for Revit MEP and related software throughout Australia and New Zealand. He is also a regular speaker and presenter at numerous industry recognised events and conferences throughout the year.

Andrew is the Business Unit Manager for MTWO within Cloud A2K. His responsibilities include setting the strategies and processes to implement cloud enabled construction solutions with clients across the ANZ region and providing the latest innovations to deliver on requirements.  Previously Andrew has held the positions of BIM Practice Leader for Autodesk and the Chief Operating Officer of CSi Global Services.  In these capacities he was responsible for all of the deliverables of a highly skilled team in relation to the implementation and adoption of BIM for construction and infrastructure projects globally.  Andrew has been working with CADD and design technology for over 20 years starting out in the mechanical area before studying civil, structural and mechanical engineering.  Andrew has lectured both at university and technical college in engineering and run the design teams for a large consulting engineering company in the mechanical, civil and structural disciplines.  Andrew now works with some of the leading companies globally as well as owners and governments in a thought leadership capacity and has been recognised for this expertise in delivering process change management solutions to an international clientele

Derived from a career in Refrigeration and Air-conditioning, Nathans passion for the construction industry spans 25 years’ gaining exposure in Design, Engineering, Drafting and BIM Management for head and subcontractor organisations. From the early days on the drawing board through to today’s digital world, Nathan’s expertise has led to the implementation of AutoCAD, CAMduct, CADduct, Revit, Digital Point Layout and Point Cloud Scanning workflows for some of Adelaide’s major CBD developments.

Fundamental to Hansen Yuncken’s Enterprise and Innovation Strategy, Nathan combines practical on site knowledge with a passion for digital design to implement technology smarts across all projects.

As an advocate for industry change, Nathan maintains a keen interest and involvement with the development of the BIM-MEPAUS initiative, having been involved since its inception.

Ben Pfeiffer is the BIM / Drafting manager at Mechanical Contracting firm DCM Services. He draws on his engineering knowledge developed early in his career in a multi-discipline consultancy and now in construction (for the past eight years) has delivered various BIM projects as a sub-contractor for various clients across South Australia. Ben has been a longtime supporter of the BIM-MEPAUS initiative, involved early on as part of the South Australian arm of the AMCA providing feedback regarding the template and standards development. Ben is a keen ambassador for BIM and its practical application to the building industry.

As National Director and Victorian Executive Director with the AMCA, Sumit Oberoi has been instrumental in the development of the BIM-MEPAUS Initiative from its inception in 2010. Sumit is a passionate industry policy advocate who continually seeks to help AMCA members deliver quality projects through construction innovation.

Sumit joined the AMCA in 2009 as a Policy Analyst where he was responsible for the association’s policy program and subsequently employed as the Executive Director (Victoria). Prior to joining the AMCA, Sumit worked in numerous roles with the Victorian State Government, most notably within the Economic and Financial Policy area at the Department of Treasury and Finance.  Sumit holds directorships with the Plumbing Joint Training Fund (PJTF), Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre (PICAC), Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Building Services Exhibition (ARBS), and Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC). Sumit also represents the AMCA at the Australian Construction Industry Forum (ACIF) and the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI).

Shannon Thomas is the Executive Manager for Australia’s national BIM-MEPAUS initiative run through the AMCA (Air Conditioning and Mechanical Contractors’ Association). Shannon has a Bachelor of Engineering (Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management) with Honours from Monash University and completed postgraduate studies in Design Science (Building Services) from the University of Sydney. With wide ranging professional experience in a number of roles within the automotive industry, Shannon has a particular interest in using his knowledge in HVAC Design, Project Engineering, Continuous Improvement and Lean Production to help guide the implementation and successful adoption of the national BIM-MEPAUS Initiative within the Construction industry’s exciting and evolving BIM space.

David Kwok is an experienced Digital Engineering (DE) lead in project implementation, business development, innovations, training and technical supports to owners, contractors, consultants and public institute in different countries since his first BIM project – One Island East in HK 2004. He has been collaborating with public organizations and education sectors to share his experience and advise on DE knowledge worldwide. David worked as Senior Manager, BIM in the Airport Authority Hong Kong to direct DE implementation in the Three-Runway System project and he was in director role of Gehry Technologies for over 10 years, in charge of Asia-Pacific branches delivering world class DE consultancy. Prior to his DE for AEC career, David worked with various cutting-edge 3D design and engineering systems for different industries including consumer goods, automotive and ship building from design to manufacture in the product life cycle management. These experiences provided strong background support for him to align practical know-how in fabrications to ideal design and planning in the AEC industry.

David has been a professional member of HK Institute of Building Information Modelling (HKIBIM) since 2010, he graduated from the University of Warwick (UK) in 1997 with a Master degree in Information Technology for Manufacture, and from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology for the Master degree of Intelligent Building Technology and Management in 2011. David has also completed a professional diploma in construction management in 2015 organized by the HK Institute of Construction Manager.

Carl is a senior consultant with A.G. Coombs Advisory. With over 35 years’ industry experience Carl is responsible for the provision of advice to clients on a range of facilities management related issues including asset management, commissioning, building tuning and service management and the adoption of leading edge technologies to optimise building operation and maintenance. Since 2008 Carl has been a leading advocate of Building Information Modelling in Australia, being instrumental on the early application of BIM on landmark projects and a founding member of BIM initiatives by AMCA, AIA and NATSPEC.

Carl’s experience also encompasses the asset management field, with over 10 years’ experience in the IT industry implementing service and asset management systems for a diverse range of clients including QANTAS, Telstra and Macquarie Bank.
