Alain Waha currently holds the role of Global Head of BIM and Digital Design for BuroHappold Engineering, alongside other advisory positions with PWC and digital start-ups. Alain has a lifetime experience in the application of a digital approach. After a career in Aerospace and Automotive with roles in the UK, Europe and Asia Alain transferred to the construction industry in 2008. Initially as the CEO of a 500 strong firm providing CAD services, he created his first BIM team and started offering BIM services. His experience of BIM transformation and digital implementation spans the AEC value chain. John Stoke is Head of Strategic Development for Northern Europe at Dassault Systèmes. He is a former Major General in the British Army and, since leaving the Army in 1999, he has gained considerable commercial experience in the construction, infrastructure services and IT sectors, operating at both business unit and Board level. John retired in 1999 as Commander UK Land Forces. Since then he has followed a Board-level business career in the construction, infrastructure and IT sectors; this included four years as the Head of Corporate Affairs, Marketing and Communications for the Lend Lease European construction business, and three years as the MD of British Telecom’s National Government division. He currently chairs companies in the Construction and Charity sectors and as an Associate Director of Lend Lease Construction (UK), advises on asset development strategies. In his principal role as head of Strategic Development within Dassault Systèmes EuroNorth, John is responsible for shaping the commercial landscape of the future to provide a foundation for business development. In doing so, he leads the company’s strategic approach to its business operations, creating a culture enabling people to think, plan and act within the long term strategy of the company, driving growth and expanding market penetration and diversification.

Stuart Bull is the Regional Digital Engineering Lead (DE) with DE/Engineering Excellence Group (EnExG) ambassador responsibilities and based in the Laing O’Rouke Sydney office, Stuart has responsibilities for NSW, ACT, Vic, SA, QLD and NZ and is currently working on numerous projects across bid, design, construction and asset handover. Stuart Bull is a Civil Engineer, Building Surveyor, holds an MSc in Architectural Engineering and Construction Management as well as professional BIM qualifications with the Hong Kong Institute of BIM, Singapore Building & Construction Authority and Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. With more than 25 years in the engineering and architectural industry Stuart previously worked for Arup Consulting Engineers in the UK, Asia and Australia and has utilized BIM processes on some of the world’s largest and most iconic projects, and more recently as principal of VDC for Ridley & Co a specialist Architectural and VDC consultant. Stuart provides strategic advice on the use and implementation of digital technology to owners / operators, contractors, consultants and government groups wishing to further their understanding of Digital Engineering Processes.

Technical Services Manager | D&E Air Conditioning

Daniel Sullivan has over 10 years’ experience as a Design Engineer in the building industry and has extensive experience across numerous major projects in most sectors. Daniel’s career includes various positions with one of Victoria’s largest D&C contracting firms, D&E Air Conditioning. His duties have included responsibility of project design and management, client liaison, mechanical services design, estimating, reports and estimates, co-ordination of multi-discipline design and documentation on a wide range of projects. In his current role as Technical Services Manager with D&E, Daniel is responsible for a team of 35 people. His responsibilities include managing all engineering and drafting on D&E projects, the coordination of engineering and drafting labour, managing on-time delivery for all engineering and drafting work, problem solving for project managers, reviewing standards and code compliance, provision of design certification, BIM implementation program, and maintenance of D&E’s technical and drafting standards. Daniel is also on the project board of the BIM-MEPAUS initiative.

Steve Butler is Industry Strategy Manager for MEP & Fabrication at Autodesk. Steve initially joined Autodesk as a third party developer focusing on MEP software solutions. In the 10 years since, he has provided MEP product implementation support as a Customer Success Engineer; country specific solutions as Globalisation Product Line Manager; and as MEP Product Line Manager, has been responsible for technical delivery of Revit MEP and Autodesk Fabrication products. Prior to joining Autodesk, Steve worked for design consultants, contractors and manufacturers.

Warwick Stannus is Group Engineering Manager of the A.G. Nigel Skidmore has over 8 years’ experience in the building industry as a Mechanical Project Draftsperson. He has excellent knowledge in mechanical services spatial and system requirements design as well as project management. Nigel’s career includes various positions with D&E including BIM Manager, Project Draftsman and currently Design Manager. Nigel facilitates co-ordination meetings, using 3D software to enhance co-ordination processes, developing Revit content and standards and leading technical service teams on various projects. Nigel’s recent projects have been Epworth Richmond Pod 4 as lead co-ordinator & completed 18 months as the mechanical BIM manager on the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC) fulfilling 3D requirements and facilitating trade co-ordination meetings and design meetings with various consultants and builders.

Chris is Vice President – Business Development for AEC/BIM Solutions.  In this role he drives the development of business & lead generation activities across the globe.  Chris leads a team of Business Development & Subject Matter experts and works in close conjunction with both the Sales division & the Product Development groups to ensure critical field feedback is communicated to the other stakeholders & team players. In his previous role, Chris was the Business Development Director for Intergraph in EMIA and managed the Business Development Team for 2D & 3D design, Procurement, Materials and Fabrication and finally Construction. Having been with Intergraph for almost 15 years, Chris brings experience from several arenas.  He has over 10 years’ experience in EPC companies in the Oil & Gas Industry and 9 years with software solutions providers in the same field, incorporating his time at Intergraph. Having worked in the EPC arena in numerous departments Chris has gained key knowledge of the work-processes in Project Management, Material Control & Construction and that of the Intergraph solutions and how they translate to the “real world” requirements of clients.

Ben West is a Senior BIM Technician at BuroHappold Engineering in Edinburgh. He is a former member of BIM-MEPAUS and assisted in various developments during his 15 year Australian journey prior to moving to the UK, to tackle a new role within a consultancy. Ben originally started as a sheet metal apprentice and having come from the Tier 1 sub-contractor, now mentors others in achieving a detailed approach to design. Ben is also involved in new developments of content and standards within multiple focus groups run internally to ensure BuroHappold is delivering efficient, productive and integrated BIM. Ben is passionate about offsite manufacturing for MEP services and has presented at various conferences surrounding the subject, most recently during Autodesk University, Las Vegas. Ben is a former speaker of the Construction Innovation Forum.

With over 13 years of proven experience in the professional consulting engineering sector within Australia. In 2004, Dean began his career as a humble draftsperson, later joining Cardno ITC in 2008 and quickly rose to become the National CAD Manager overseeing the business unit’s CAD departments across the country. Dean played a key role in introducing Revit MEP into Cardno ITC. He created the first Cardno building services Revit design team before joining JHA as the Group Manager for BIM management and Revit Design in March 2012. He now leads the multidisciplinary JHA BIM Design Team across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, fire protection and audio visual services on projects ranging from design through to construction stages and beyond. Currently Dean maintains the role as the BIM Project Manager with a strong focus of bringing BIM past the handover stage and into Facility Management for the client’s future use.

With over 15 years of construction experience, Chris supports C.R. Kennedy Building Construction clients throughout Australia with product selection, implementation and training to enable mechanical, electrical and plumbing contractors to take 3D positional data to the field digitally, increasing productivity and accuracy by improving layout processes. Chris has been involved with the Australian construction industry for over five years following his work with USA building company McCarthy based in San Francisco. Chris was instrumental in the use of robotic total stations for digital lay-out and the use of the laser scanning technology for verification. Previously Chris worked with Wood Rogers Inc and was responsible for construction set-out on the Mercy Medical Centre as well as a 31,000m2, $80-million printing facility.

Prior to the MAP Software acquisition Andy played a major role in the product development of the renowned CAD-Duct and CADmep+ (now Autodesk Fabrication CADmep) AutoCAD-based applications, taking its development from a ‘2D Lisp’ based program to a full 3D c++ ObjectARX application. While spending six years with Autodesk as the software development manager his responsibilities included bringing Fabrication workflows into the Revit environment, utilising the customers’ existing Fabrication databases and protecting content investments. Currently Andy is consulting with GTP to extend Fabrication workflows from Desktop to shop and field utilising cutting edge technologies based on the Fabrication data and the Forge platform.

Luke Teunissen has 16 years’ experience in the Construction industry, working exclusively in the HVAC arena on a vast range of project types and complexities throughout this time. Luke has gained an invaluable amount of experience in all areas of the construction industry including Mechanical Engineering, Design, Design Management, Shop drawing reviews and Building Services Consultancy, Luke’s personable nature has allowed him to forge great and productive working relationships with all stakeholders on his projects. As a Lead Design Manager for several technical teams, Luke has been responsible for engineering & drafting apartment buildings, shopping centres and hospitals, recently including the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC) as single project spanning a three year contract term. Luke is currently managing a team of draftspersons and engineers working on multiple challenging  projects such as Simmonds Stadium, St Vincent’s Hospital – Werribee, Aurora Apartments  incorporating design development, installation and commissioning for multiple storey buildings, each with their own set of challenges to guide his team through. Luke is a great mentor to younger up and coming staff members and is ever willing to give up his own time to help others gain the opportunities working in this industry has provided himself.

Adam works within the BIM Advisory group providing technical and strategic advice relating to BIM execution plans, contracts, project deliverables, management and system tools to support BIM Projects and BIM2FM Integrated Solutions. An associate director at AECOM, Adam’s role is focused on developing systems and skill sets to deliver BIM and DE project requirements to ensure best value for clients across AECOM’s market sectors. Kevin Allen is currently working at Comfort Systems USA, Inc. (CSUSA), a premier mechanical systems installation and service provider, as director of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and productivity. CSUSA is a national organization with 23 companies, 6 Sheet Metal Fabrication Shops, and 154 users currently running the Fabrication software products on a single database. Kevin is responsible for implementing, training, and advising on best practices for these companies, developing standards within the organization, and providing technology recommendations for the future. Ben has worked closely with the BIM MEPAUS industry collaboration team since 2011 to pioneer the standards and workflow for the first Australian BIM standard for pumps.  Ben promotes innovative implementation of technologies, in order to realise value for all stakeholders and advancement in efficiency through the project and  building life cycle.
