Managing Director | Exner Group

Dr Collette Burke has more than 25 years’ experience in the engineering & construction industry. Dr Burke’s experience covers a wide-range of sectors and industries, such as: telecommunications, road, tunnel, rail, building, manufacturing and marine.

Dr Burke is in key management positions within major engineering consultancy and education firms, Exner Group and Karsta, as well as a Director on the VicTrack board.

With a PhD in risk management, Dr Burke is an internationally-acknowledged researcher and has worked as a senior lecturer and course advisor at University of Melbourne and RMIT University.

Dr Burke believes in early exposure to engineering and science, technology, engineering and maths is critical for young people. This is particularly true for improving the representation of women in the engineering workforce

Vice President of Corporate Technology | The Hill Group

Mr Dave Pikey is the Vice President of Corporate Technology for The Hill Group, a $250M Chicago-based organization engaged in construction and maintenance of building systems – all focused on energy efficiency and sustainability.

Dave joined The Hill Group in 1998 as a design engineer, and has directed the company’s modeling, estimating, and fabrication technology since 2004. He also runs marketing and communication for the group.

Currently serving as a member of the Chicago BIM-IPD Group and the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Digital Practice Research Group, Dave is coveted as an industry guest speaker, sharing his experience on leveraging technology in a collaborative environment to deliver a better product in the construction process.

Dave has a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Purdue University.

Armed with an arsenal of Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology expertise and three decades’ experience in the Australian architectural landscape, Rodd continues to revolutionise Architectus’ operations by implementing a comprehensive system of standards, customisation, QA methodologies and information management techniques.

Fascinated by the way architecture combines creativity with science, engineering and technology to create tangible, project-based outcomes, Rodd is excited to see where the burgeoning trends of BIM, VR and building automation and data collection technologies take the industry beyond documentation and internal processes.

Derek Olsen is the Director of Industry Application and Training at Vrtual HVAC. Vrtual HVAC is a specialist division within Vrtual Pty Ltd, a leader in virtual reality systems in Australia. Derek has 23 years’ experience in the HVAC industry and has held a number of senior positions in a variety of disciplines. Derek is a member of various industry bodies including AIRAH and CIBSE and sits on the NEBB Australia and NEBB USA boards. His other passion is software development. He has created award winning HVAC testing and commissioning applications which he sells to the industry. With his strong background in HVAC, training and software development, Derek and the rest of the team at Vrtual are heavily focused on delivering exciting high end HVAC VR training simulators for local and international markets.

As the Global Head of Digital, Daniel’s vision is to transform the way buildings and infrastructure are designed, built and operated. He is committed to constantly challenge the status quo and has the practical experience, along with the big picture thinking to make it happen.

Prior to joining Willow, Daniel was responsible for developing Digital Engineering throughout the CIMIC Group’s Asia-Pacific operations from Design & Construction through to Facilities Management.

Daniel is also a Chartered Mechanical Engineering and holds over a decade of Design and Construction experience tendering and delivering over $30billion of Engineering projects in the industries of Rail & Road Infrastructure, Buildings, Water, Mining, Oil & Gas and Manufacturing, accompanied by a strong experience in business via a previously owned mobile Apps company.

His specialities include Digital Enterprise, Digital Buildings, Innovation in Construction, Design Management, Project Management, Business Development, Digital Engineering, BIM, Building Information Modelling, Engineering Management, VDC, Virtual Design & Construction, BIM Management.

Engineering Manager | PJM Engineering Services

Matt Payne is the Engineering Manager at PJM Engineering Services, a Melbourne based mechanical HVAC contractor. Matt holds a Bachelor’s degree of Mechanical Engineering, with honours from RMIT University. Whilst only short, Matt’s engineering career has thus far included experience in a range of fields including Automotive engineering, manufacturing & validation. Matt now represents PJM in a number of departments including engineering, design, commissioning & new technologies. Matt holds a keen interest in pairing efficient engineering with current & emerging technologies.

Alain has a passion for building businesses delivering technology based solutions. His career started in Aerospace and Automotive, deploying new business models and information systems.  Alain transferred to the construction industry in 2008 as CEO of Atlas industries, then CEO band founder of a further 2 start-up in BIM services.

Alain is also a director of Sanveo, sits on the board of multiple tech startups in AEC, and founder Director of the BIM Process Innovation Forum.

As Development Lead for design technology consultancy designtech, an Enstoa company, Radu works closely with teams of architects, engineers, contractors and clients to improve digital design delivery through custom workflows, bespoke tools and new web-based platforms. He sees his role as the perfect application of his highly rational & analytical thinking stemming from a background in programming and unencumbered creativity, courtesy of being trained & working as an architect. Radu has also been teaching computational design in Dynamo and Revit at the Canterbury School of Architecture for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses for the past 5 years and is a committee member for the UK Dynamo User Group. In his spare time, Radu plays electric guitar and makes Dynamo packages like DynaWeb or the machine-learning enabling AI package.

Steve specialises in digital design and construction. He has 15 years architectural experience with the last 10 years holding digital technology leadership positions for multi-disciplinary design studios in Sydney and London. More recently he has become the General Manager of BIM Consulting, and an advisor for digital technology to their parent company Architectus.  He’s in touch with design, construction and facilities management professionals and he doesn’t want to make their life difficult by implementing complexity and ambiguity on projects. His goal is for improvement across the project lifecycle, aiming for better design process, better delivery, and better digital asset handover.  Steve has seen that first-class virtual models, paired with optimised digital processes, will give projects a great chance for success.

Group Engineering Manager | A.G. Coombs Group

Warwick Stannus is Group Engineering Manager of the A.G. Coombs Group of Companies, where he is responsible for the technical leadership and professional development for all engineering and technical staff. With a background in both the consulting and contracting sides of the construction industry, Warwick has a strong understanding of the requirements to successfully implement integrated project delivery strategies. In recent years, he has been heavily involved in the delivery of Independent Commissioning Agent services for a number of Australia’s leading Green Star projects, and has developed valuable experience in best practice sustainable design and project delivery. He also provides a range of engineering and commissioning advisory services related to central plant upgrades, data centre engineering, commissioning management and building information modelling. Warwick is Technical Director of the BIM-MEPAUS initiative, and has been pivotal in the development of industry standards, practices and workflows.
